For those who still do not know, Matera will be the Capital of Culture 2019. We are now on the eve of the imminent entry of 2019 that will crown Matera European Capital of Culture
On 19 January the inaugural ceremony will be held, for the event hundreds of thousands of tourists are expected for a program that covers 50 weeks. The city of pebbles, since 1993 in the list of UNESCO’s cultural heritage sites, will host 50 weeks of events, 330 days of programming. Matera 2019 open future, this is the slogan, wants to transmit the message of open culture. The five themes presented in the application dossier are: Roots and paths, Continuity and breakage, Remote future, Utopias and dystopias, Reflections and connections.
The program includes dozens of exhibitions and events, local projects and European-style projects. Starting from the inaugural ceremony, when 131 bands from the municipalities of Basilicata will enter the city to the rhythm of music. Four exhibitions will tell Matera and Basilicata from the past to the future. There will be exhibits prepared by the Open Design School, the design school founded on the principles of open culture. The regional archives will be entrusted to 5 world-famous artists for installations lasting two months each. The production of 50 original theatrical productions is expected to be distributed in different places in the city and in the region.
